Hughes Helicopters provides a comprehensive array of training services covering everyone from beginners to more advanced pilots. Although we are based in Goulburn, we also offer ‘come to you’ training services and have already trained pilots from QLD, NT and VIC on their home turf.

We only take on a limited number of students at any one time to ensure you are able to book your lessons at a time that’s convenient and our instructors know your progress intimately.

COURSE INFORMATION
Introductory flight lesson
$595
Not quite sure if you want to go for your pilots’ licence yet? That’s ok, we offer an introductory flying lesson so you can see if you like it. After a briefing with your instructor you will get to fly the Helicopter under supervision for 30 minutes. The best part is, if you do decide to do your licence, this will count towards your time.

RECREATIONAL PILOT LICENCE (RPL)
$900 per hour +GST
Take your life to new heights with a Recreational Pilot Licence. Experience the excitement of flying independently and get a taste of what a private licence would be like.
The benefits of this licence include:
- Flying unsupervised with passengers
- Travelling up to 25nm (46Km) radius from the point of take-off
- A stepping stone to your Private Pilots Licence
To get this licence you will:
- Complete all course modules
- Conduct a minimum of 25 flight hours*
- Pass a practical and theory exam

PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (PPL)
$900 per hour +GST
The world is yours with a Private Pilot Licence. Experience a whole new kind of freedom with the ability to fly anywhere unsupervised, as long as it’s not for commercial purposes.
The benefits of this licence include:
- Flying unsupervised with passengers
- Travelling anywhere you like
- A stepping stone to your Commercial Pilots Licence
To get this licence you will:
- Complete all course modules
- Conduct a minimum of 50 flight hours*
- Pass a practical and theory exam

COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE (CPL)
$900 per hour (GST free)
You’re as free as a bird with a Commercial Pilots Licence. This licence means you can fly anywhere, anytime and you can operate for a business.
The benefits of this licence include:
- Flying unsupervised with passengers
- Travelling anywhere you like
- Operating for commercial use
To get this licence you will:
- Complete all requirements from the recreation and private licence
- Conduct a minimum of 105 flight hours*
- Pass a practical and theory exam
Flight Instructor Rating (FIR)
POA (GST free) Depends on aircraft selected
If you already hold a Private or Commercial Licence, have a minimum of 250 flight hours, you may be eligible to begin your Flight Instructor Rating (FIR).
The FIR enables you to teach students how to fly helicopters in the training endorsement held by the Instructor
Requirements:

You must hold a Private/Commercial helicopter pilot licence

Have a minimum of 250 hours flying helicopters

Have completed the Single CASA FIR theory exam

Have completed an approved Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course or hold a Certificate 4 in training and assessing

Complete a minimum of 30 hours flight training and meet the CASA FIR(H) Syllabus and standards

Sit your FIR (Grade 3 training endorsement) flight test with an approved Flight Examine
